When having osteopathy it is common to be given exercises to do as part of your treatment and rehabilitation. The exercises given to your will be specific to your concerns and needs, and it's important to do them as directed by your osteopath to prevent any further harm being done.
Some of the exercises you may be asked to do include those for the shoulders, neck, back, lower back, waist, hips and pelvis, gluteal muscles, legs and core stability. These will all be exercises that you can do in the comfort of your own home.
There are however many ways to get exercise into your daily routine, without having to pay for gym membership or buy any equipment. Just staying active and making sure you move every day will have a positive impact on your overall health. Ten to twenty minutes if brisk walking a day will increase your heart rate, help your energy levels and lower your risk of illness like heart disease and type 2 diabetes. To find out more about the benefits of incorporating daily activity into your lie, visit Public Health England's One You campaign page. The campaign aims to encourage everyone to get active with small but simple life changes that are easy to stick to. There is even an accompanying app that you can download to help you on your way.
Apart from exercises, your osteopathy may also recommend hot or cold therapy with a compression pack. You will be given instructions for how and when to do this, and again, this will be specific to your issues and treatment plan.
Remember to always check with your doctor or osteopath before doing any exercise for the first time. For further information:
